Creating Clusters

How to create content clusters

Machined creates content in groups called content clusters. A content cluster is a group of related articles, each targeting a different but relevant keyword, which power each other through contextual internal links.

You can create a cluster using either the Auto-Pilot mode which will find relevant keywords for you, or Manual mode which allows you to provide your own keywords.

Create a cluster

To create a cluster, simply click on the "Create Cluster" button on the dashboard.

Define your cluster

You need to define the target topic, audience and language for the cluster - and add it to a project for easier tracking and management.

For best results, we strongly recommend reading the docs about topics and audiences!

Defining a cluster

Defining the topic

Topics are best defined using a hierarchy that follows a topical map.

We use the '>' symbol to depict the hierarchy of topics, for example to write about toothbrushes for dogs, you might define the topic as 'Dogs > Hygiene > Teeth > Brushing'. This helps the AI understand the context and bounds of what it should write about, so that it doesn't inadvertently write about something that you have in another cluster topic.

Defining the audience

The audience should be a relatively detailed definition of who you're writing for - keep this to a few sentences for best results.

Choosing a language

The language allows you to set the language of the content in the cluster. Whatever language you choose, be sure to write the topic and audience in the same language, otherwise you might find English words in your foreign language text!

Next steps

Now that you've defined your topic and audience, you can choose whether to create a cluster using or Auto-pilot or Manual mode:
